Well control discussion and theories

This section introduces the reader to basic concepts and terminology about well control. Enhancements to the rig up of well control equipment and well barriers are key elements to safe well control. Concepts including volume and displacement capacity calculations, hydrostatic pressure, tripping, ballooning, MASP, ESD, EMW, and kick tolerance are discussed. U-tube diagrams for understanding well control pressures are covered. A discussion of multiwell pads, causes of kicks, diverting, and drilling fluids is presented within this section.
