The use of smartphones as operating microscopes

Many dermatosurgical procedures (eg, electrolysis, hair transplantation, subcuticular suturing, suturing with a 6-0 thread on the eyelid, and fine chemical or electric cautery on pinhead-sized lesions) are challenging because of their small size, and the lack of proper illumination and magnification when performing these procedures can result in scarring and collateral damage to the surrounding tissues. Various magnification aids, like surgical loupes and overhead lights, are available for use. Unfortunately, these instruments are uncomfortable to be worn for long durations and have a fixed focal length and magnification.
