To investigate the mechanical performance of short laminated bamboo column (LBC) with different cross-section morphology and vascular bundle content, three groups of specimens were axially compressed to investigate their elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio, load capacity and failure mode. The cross-section morphology of bamboo column has little influence on the ultimate bearing capacity of bamboo column, but it has a certain effect on the ductility. The vascular bundle content of LBC has great influence on the mechanical properties, as the mean peak load of group C is 25.16% higher than that of group B1. It is also found that the strength of the LBC depends on the global fiber buckling while the delamination of the fibers results in the complete failure of the LBC.
