KF-doped BaTi 2 O 5 ceramics were successfully synthesized by solid state reaction of mixing KF and sol-gel derived BaTi 2 O 5 powders. It was observed that KF was beneficial to increase the ceramic density to some extent, due to the presence of liquid KF during sintering. The ferroelectric phase transition became broader and the phase transition temperature decreased as the amount of KF dopant increased. A hot press method was used to prepare a 5% KF doped ceramic sample which showed a density as high as 98% of theoretical value and enhanced dielectric constant over 4 times larger than that in conventionally prepared samples. The dielectric behavior of hot pressed sample was consistent with that for a ferroelectric-relaxor.
