An efficient strategy to promote C-C coupling via the condensation of oxygen-containing compounds has been proposed by Wang et al. in this issue of Chem Catalysis . The strategy involves the generation of carbanion and carbocation on the oxide-zeolite composite catalyst with intimate but spatially separated acid-base dual sites.
