Power Efficient Intelligent Helmet for Coal Mining Security and Alerting

India is endowed with a rich variety of mineral resources. The world’s fourth-largest coal deposits are in India. The requirements of domestic use have driven commercial coal mining in India for a recent era from the beginning. The mining industry has several facets and involves intricate processes that are carried out underground, tunnels, caverns etc. Alongside this, there are a number of hazardous variables involved that have an impact on the health of miners. The mining sector follows a few simple steps to prevent accidents of all sorts. Yet, accidents are still happening in underground wells, caverns and mines because of surface warming, methane hydrate leaks, carbon dioxides etc. With the emerging recent technologies like IoT, wireless communication, the communication becomes easier and effective. The earlier the control room gets the update, the more damage can be reduced. In order to avoid the harsh accidents, the study propose a Smart helmet for mining safety and alerting system, which effectively monitors the mining environment and alerts the user in case of critical situation which includes pre-installed safety modules and smart sensors.A IOT based surveillance system is built within the helmet, and it exchanges data with all of the sensors and tracking device via Wi-Fi networks. In order to avoid any highly hazardous situations, the Smart Helmet Indicator takes the necessary safeguards and gives out a warning through a buzzer for the miner and through Cloud to the control room. The miner and the supervisor in the control room are both made aware of the situations by the devices in the helmet when they are encountered. The Pulse and SPO2 sensor monitors the health condition of that miner and in case of uneasiness of that miner it alerts the supervisor. In order to track the immediate location of miner, a tracking system is used which helps in tracking the location of the miner.
