Carbon capture technology is a group of processes used to extract carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) from different applications and stream conditions: post-combustion, pre-combustion, oxy-fuel combustion, and direct air capture. This paper presents some major carbon capture technologies, including adsorption, absorption, chemical looping, cryogenic distillation, and membrane separation. These technologies are evaluated based on their CO 2 capture performance, energy requirement, and environmental impact while identifying their limitations and improvement strategies. One carbon capture performance improvement trend is the blending of different absorbents or synthesis of composite adsorbents, taking advantage of the individual absorbent or adsorbent characteristics to overcome their system limitation.
