Abstract The reactions of InCl 3 with Na{Se(CH 2 ) n NMe 2 } in 1:2 stoichiometry yielded complexes of composition [InCl{Se(CH 2 ) n NMe 2 } 2 ] (n=2 ( 1 ) or 3 ( 2 )). Treatment of Me 2 InCl with Na(4‐SeC 5 H 4 N) afforded [Me 2 In(4‐SeC 5 H 4 N)] n ( 3 ). Copper complex [(PEt 3 ) 2 Cu 2 (4‐SeC 5 H 4 N) 2 ] n ( 4 ) was synthesized from CuCl, PEt 3 and Na(4‐SeC 5 H 4 N). These complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis and NMR spectroscopy. Solid‐state structures of 3 and 4 revealed the formation of one‐ and two‐dimensional co‐ordination polymer which is formed via Se and N atoms of selenolate ligand. Thermal studies of these complexes have been carried out in a furnace or oleylamine to give thin film or nano‐materials of In 2 Se 3 , Cu 1.8 Se and CuInSe 2 .
