3D laser scanning technology is a high-precision, high-efficiency surveying and mapping tool that in recent years, has been widely used in the field of surveying and mapping technology but also realized from the single-point surveying and mapping to surface mapping of the revolutionary breakthrough; at the same time, the collected data information from the spatial coordinates of the data to expands the surface of the object, color and texture information. This paper mainly discusses the current situation and development trend of 3D laser scanning technology in the field of surveying and mapping, introduces the principle and characteristics of 3D laser scanning technology, compares the advantages and disadvantages with traditional surveying and mapping means, and analyzes its application in terrain mapping, deformation monitoring, cultural relic protection, underground engineering, geologic hazards, etc., concludes that this technology is a new type of high-precision, high-efficiency technology that has great development prospects in the future.
