In recent years, composite materials have attracted special attention due to the possibility of obtaining synergic effects between a massive material and a nanomaterial, allowing to apply in a simple and reproducible way, nanomaterials to diverse technological applications. Some of the most interesting composites are those that involve the use of nanoparticles. There are different methodologies for the incorporation of nanoparticles in different types of massive materials, such as polymers, massive metals, cements, etc. In this way, it is possible to confer particular properties to a massive material by adjusting it to the functionality that is required. In this chapter, some of the mechanisms for the synthesis and characterization of composites using nanoparticles of different materials, as a method for the application of nanomaterials in various multifunctional platforms are described.
