Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were synthesized via one-step thermal chemical vapour deposition technique. The effect of various growth parameters such as carbon source, the incorporation of additives like sulfur and chlorine, and the adjustment of temperature has been explored. Structural and morphological properties have been examined through X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Growth parameters significantly influence the amount of carbon particles, alignment, diameter, and the catalyst filling of CNT. The presence of minute amount of additives during the synthesis significantly affects the phase of iron within the nanotubes and the tube diameter. Further, the variation in synthesis temperature has a direct impact on the crystallinity and the structural purity of the as-formed CNT.
